Essential Oils For Outdoor Adventures

Talk about ADVENTURE . . . I recently returned home from visiting my brother Daniel in Arizona. We had a glorious time together creating new memories with family and friends.

In the span of 5 days, we hiked several beautiful trails in Sedona, took Daniel’s boat out fishing, experienced freezing temperatures while camping on the shore of Saguaro Lake, saddled up his horses and trekked through the dessert on a 4-hour horseback ride to the Salt River, soaked in the Arizona sun to the point of getting a little too toasty pink, enjoyed a guided tour by “Captain Dan” on the Dessert Bell, shopped at a local farmer’s market in Fountain Hills, and made several delicious home cooked meals with mother.

The wonderful thing about adventuring with health-minded family and friends is that you each think about the “necessities”. And by necessities, I’m not talking about potato chips and candy bars and hot dogs! I’m talking Essential Oils, NingXia Red, Thieves Lozenges, and Einkorn Granola! Haha!!!

Add in some healthy, nutritious food … water … and maybe a few splurge items (like s’mores) … and ENJOY!

Between the three campers we had more essential oils than could fit in a tackle box! And more granola than we could feed a small army for breakfast. HaHa!!!

We actually busted out laughing when we set out each of our “preparedness stock” off essential oils. We were RICH — in oils! But clearly, we did not need a year’s supply for only 2 nights at the off-grid campsite.

After narrowing down our selection to the basic must haves, we ended up with about 10 oils — Lavender, Peppermint, Purification, Thieves, R.C., Melrose, DiGize, Copaiba, Aroma Seiz, and PanAway.

Let the adventure begin!

The only way to access this campsite was by boat.

No electricity … No cell service … No loud music … No bathroom or shower … Cooking meals over a camp fire … Fishing in the dark! . . . Oh, and I can’t forget to mention that it was below freezing at night and 73 degrees during the day … ahhhhh!!!

HALLELUJAH ! ! ! My heart was happy! It was the best 2 days of relaxing with friends I’ve had all year!

WHY should you include essential oils in your next outdoors adventure?

“Essential Oils are not luxuries. They are preparedness necessities.” ~ Elizabeth Rose

During the 29 years I have been using Young Living’s essential oils and products, there have been a very few times I forgot my oils, or decided not to bring them. Every time I regretted not having what I needed. Essential oils are a way of life for me and my family, and there’s just no way to deny their health value. When used property, they can support the body’s natural functions, helping a person stay “above the wellness line”.

One of the main ways I use essential oils is on the preventative side of the pendulum. When the body does get out of balance or injury occurs, it is much easier to assist the body through a timely recovery process.

In this blog, share several different categories of adventures and what products can be most helpful.

Since each product has multiple uses and application methods, I will not go into that great of detail here. You can purchase the digital download of my “Family Preparedness and First Aid with Essential Oils” digital download for the details on each product. The Young Living website is also a good resource for general usage.

READY . . . SET . . . GO!

We all need a good dose of Vitamin D, just not too much. So here is a tip about Sunscreen.

DID YOU KNOW . . . that when it comes to sunscreen, if it says SPF 50 that means you can stay out in the sun half the amount if time longer than you normally would without starting to burn? So if it says SPF 25, that means you can stay out and extra 25% of the time you normally could. And if you are reading this blog, chances are, you aren’t a “sunscreen type of person”. I’m not! I very rarely used sunscreen before Young Living came out with theirs, because I know all the icky ingredients in the store-bought stuff. Thieves Spray — this is a spray Young Living formulated for easy use. It includes the Thieves oil blend and Denatured Alcohol. it works great for spraying the toilet seat, tables, areas that smell funky, even on your hands for a quick refresh.

DIY Purification Spritzer — Add 10-20 drops of Purification oil blend to a 12 ounce spray bottle with water.

— Spray insides of shoes and sandals.

— Before or after hiking, spritz on arms and legs and even armpits. This helps refresh the skin and smells better than sweat. It also helps ward off pesky bugs.

— *Thieves essential oil applied topically to the feet and down the spine also supports a healthy immune system. I use this application 3 days before going adventuring as prevention.

When you’re out in nature, don’t you want to experience nature to the fullest? Even when it comes to what you put on your body? Things like toothpaste, mouthwash, deodorant, shampoo/conditioner, and hand sanitizers sure can have a lot of ingredients that are not “natural” to the body.

DID YOU KNOW . . . The skin is the largest organ of the human body. Whatever you apply to the skin will be absorbed into the body and eventually end up in the blood stream.

Young Living formulates their products without parabens, phthalates, talc, aluminum, mineral oil, synthetic perfumes or dyes, artificial colors, fragrances, or preservatives. You can feel safe using these products for adults and children without worrying about harmful side effects. It’s time we “get back to nature” with our personal care products!
