#WorthIt

Yes, YOU are Worth It!

What do I mean by that exactly? Well, it was the Tim Tebow Foundation that did a campaign a few years ago called #WorthIt and it really got my attention.

Yes I’m a HUGE Tim Tebow fan. For three years in a row here in Kerrville, TX I actually partnered with the Tim Tebow Foundation and Cross Kingdom Church to host a Night To Shine event for people ages 14 years and older. It’s a kind of Prom Night experienced centered on God’s love for people with special needs. We had a DJ and dancing, each guest with special needs was paired up with a volunteer who was their Buddy for the night. Together they walked the red carpet and got their professional photo taken. Buzzie’s BBQ and local catering companies created a delicious spread of food and sweet treats. Over 800 volunteers joined us throughout the 3 years, and over 400 guests with special needs and their parents and caretakers were treated like royalty.

The reason I share this is that my heart grew so much during these three years. It took hundreds of hours to pull off these events, countless phone calls and emails, visits to the coffee shop for planning sessions, decorating, even driving all the way to San Antonio to pick up 200 feet of red carpet before a company in Kerrville purchased carpet just so that we could use it the following year. (Thank you to Five Star Rental)

These guests with special needs are SOOOO worth the effort. Their parents are worth it. The volunteers are worth it!

YOU are #WorthIt

Yes … YOU

God loves you with an endless love. He created you for love. His desire is to love and be loved in return. He created you with a free will so that you can choose to love him. Your greatest gift back to God is to love him. His greatest gift to you is to love you unconditionally!

If you never did another thing in your life besides love God, that is enough.

But here’s the thing. God also created the world we live in so that we can enjoy it … So that we can take care of it … So that we can create a beautiful life, in partnership with him.

Have you ever thought of God as your CEO? I have. It’s something I did in my early twenties when I was just starting my own business and I REALLLLY needed help. I had no clue what I was doing. Aside from getting advise from mentors, attending a bunch of classes, reading books, and getting a masters degree from the School of Hard Knocks (hahaha 🤣), I really had no idea what in the world I was doing, or exactly who I wanted to become. I didn’t know what legacy I wanted to leave. I wasn’t even thinking about legacy.

Only when I realized that partnering with God in every area of life is the best way to go, did I find true meaning in my life. I’ve come to realize that the only way to truly be successful and fulfilled and live a life of purpose is to partner with God, my creator, who knows everything about me, even how many hairs are on my head.

So how does #WorthIt come into play?

Along this journey of life, I have had many ups and downs, successes and failures. One thing that I realized is a constant, and a necessity, is self care. What is self care? Well, it’s simple things like making time to take a shower every day. Things that seems so mundane and may not always be fun, but they are worth it, because you are worth it.

In order to be balanced in the 5 main areas of life - physical, emotional, spiritual, relational, financial health - the things listed below are what I have realized I must do on a daily, weekly, monthly basis in order to stay in balance. When I am internally in balance then I have enough to give to others and serve and give from the reserve of what is already inside of me.

Let’s look at a few of these self care items, and then I’d like to know in the comments which ones you would add.

Eat Healthy, Nutritious Food … Food is fuel. If you were to put gasoline in a diesel truck, it wouldn’t run for long and then you’d have to go take it into the repair shop. If you don’t fuel for your body with the nutrients, vitamins, minerals, and water it needs you may very well find yourself in the repair shop (the doctors office) spending big bucks.

Me Time … This may sound selfish at first, but hear me out. You need “time to process”. Think of it like a coin machine. If you put $100 in change into a coin machine but run away to your next task before the machine is done sorting out your change, you won’t earn back in cash the amount that you put in. This is similar to your day. You put in actions, emotions, memories, things you see and hear and feel and touch and taste. At some point during the day your body and brain needs some down time to be that coin machine and sort out what you take. This time helps you properly sort out and store the change. For instance, if you have a great conversation with a friend and just run off to the next thing without thinking over what they said, it will most likely have less impact.

Journal / Write … For those of us who enjoy writing and sorting our thoughts out on paper, journaling can be a very helpful thing. I probably have 20 journals that I’ve saved over the years. They are full of stories, memories, quotes I wanted to remembers, bible verses, prayers, questions that I didn’t have answers for yet, hopes and dreams. I’ve been to 18 countries as of today, and I know for a fact that I have forgotten more than I’ve tried to remember about each traveling experience. Thankfully, many of the important memories are written in my journals for me and my family to go back and read.

Get Dressed … While this may not be an issue for many who work outside of the home and have to get dressed to go to work most days, there are others like myself who work from home. Do you know how EASY it is to STILL be in my pajamas at 3pm! I’M SERIOUS, it can be really bad!! The worst part of the day is when I want to shoot a quick video for social media, turn on my camera and about scream. “Who the heck is that!!!! She looks like a hobo.” 🤣💃🏻🤠 You can laugh, it’s okay🤣🤩🤣 … So long story short, I have decided to wake up and get dressed in the morning, put on makeup, do my hair (some days more fancy than others) and really make sure that I feel my best.

*PS, stretchy workout leggings are THE WORST. They just keep stretching as you’re sitting on your but, eating food, not working out. And before long you won’t fit into your bluejeans any longer. So I highly recommend “getting dressed” in clothes that hold you and your workout routine accountable 😁

Take A Walk … Have you ever taken a walk on a nice sunny day and almost instantly your spirits were lifted? I especially love walking because my brain works optimally when I am moving. Just walking is boring, but walking while thinking, listening to music or an audio book or podcast can be doubly rewarding. To see many more benefits of walking, visit my blog titled “Get Moving”.

Read A Book … Yes, you are allowed to give yourself time to read. Remember, you are WORTH IT! The human brain never stops learning, so why should you. Reading is proven to enhance our vocabulary, broaden our understanding of different topics, be an inspiration when reading something like an autobiography, gives the brain words to put images to like when reading a novel, and touches our emotions and thought patterns differently than when we watch TV or talk with others.

Take A Bubble Bath … Even if it’s once a week, make a date with yourself, make a nice warm bath, have a candle to ambient light, turn on some relaxing music and just soak. Adding a cup of Epsom Salt and your favorite essential oil is my favorite thing to complete this time. I love the scent of Lavender or Eucalyptus, or the blend called Stress Away from Young Living Essential Oils. *If you’d like to learn more about EO’s click here.

Love Yourself … This may be the most important. When you fully love yourself, you are more able to love those around you. When you judge yourself, you will judge others according to how you judge yourself. Have you ever looked in the mirror while getting dressed in the morning and said something like, “Dang my butt looks big in these pants.” Then the first person you see out and about you check to see if their butt looks big. It’s legit, right? However, when you give yourself grace for being imperfect, acting imperfectly, speaking imperfectly, not always getting your to-do-list done, you are way more likely to allow others to be themselves. You may actually find your outlook on life looks a lot brighter, you become optimistic, and you dream more. You are more hopeful, and those around you can truly tell that you. love, accept and respect yourself. This causes others to also love and respect you as well.

Are there any self care things that you think should be added to this? I’m all ears. Write a comment and share what things you find helpful, and if this blog was helpful to you.
